All later-model MEFI controllers utilize the CANBus protocol based on SAE Communications Standard J1939 and the NMEA 2000 CANBus Standard. M.E.D.S. 7.0 now includes the capability to diagnose later-model MEFI-based engines manufactured by Indmar, Ilmor, Crusader, Pleasurecraft Marine, Flagship Marine, Marine Power, Panther Airboats and Kodiak Marine. M.E.D.S. already provides engine diagnostics for Mercury, Mercruiser, Yamaha, Yamaha PWC, BRP (Johnson/Evinrude), Suzuki and MEFI 1-4 inboard engines.
